Business Challenges
Scalability struggles in inspection services
PropChk, a tech-enabled home inspection company, provides end-to-end home inspection services by qualified experts based on protocols designed by IIT Roorkee. Their services include inspection, detection and protection of properties across six cities.
From simple checklists, PropChk’s inspections reports evolved over time to comprehensive narratives supported by photographic evidence. The report details issues in the areas of quality check, materials check, area check, dimension check and brand check. Remedies for these issues were also added to the reports based on customer feedback. Initially managing inspection reports via MS Excel, they quickly encountered scalability and client communication challenges, necessitating a transformative solution.
PropChk partnered with an IT company to create two mobile apps and an admin panel to resolve these issues, only to find themselves facing new challenges. These applications encountered connectivity issues during inspections, leading to loss of data and time. The sheer volume of questions per inspection (approximately 600) and the resultant data further compounded operational inefficiencies. They also faced issues while saving inspection images and videos on the server from the inspection site resulting in server crashes. As a result of these technological and operational issues, each inspection stretched up to 6-7 hours.
This is when PropChk approached Versatile Commerce through a referral to help transform and future-proof their business.
Solution
Transforming inspection processes
Versatile Commerce developed a comprehensive solution comprising a web and mobile app for inspectors and clients, and an admin panel for centralised monitoring.
PropChk’s complex and unique challenges necessitated out-of-box thinking and technological innovation by Versatile Commerce. The team’s breakthrough came when they designed their application to consider every room as a house. This limited the data size and enabled structured data segregation, resolving connectivity, access, and efficiency issues. Inspection time was reduced from 6-7 hours to one hour. This segregation remained hidden from the client with no negative impact on the user experience.
Real-Time Tracking
The Integrated application allows inspectors to perform their tasks optimally via a web and mobile app, capturing data, images, and videos as they progress. Simultaneously, the client can track progress in the mobile app, view ongoing inspection reports, monitor inspection status, and communicate with inspectors in real time.
Centralised Quality Control
The administrative panel centrally monitors every inspection activity, facilitating quality control, data processing, and validation, thus ensuring inspections proceed smoothly until completion. This solution streamlined communication and transparency between inspectors and clients and simplified the process at both ends.
State-of-the-Art Reports
Given that the inspection reports serve as critical points of engagement with the end-users, team created reports containing detailed information presented in an easy-to-understand and visually appealing format, with an intuitive user experience.
PropChk also aimed to embed video files in the PDF report, playable without leaving the document. This required a couple of months of research, which Versatile Commerce achieved. As the PDFs were large due to multiple images and videos, Versatile Commerce optimised the reports on-the-fly based on the device and network, for example sharing shorter versions with the mobile users, enabling them to access the reports anywhere, anytime.
Technology
Technologies utilised included Angular, React Native, and MongoDB, enabling seamless platform integration and functionality. Through close collaboration, Versatile Commerce’s skilled team crafted bespoke solutions for PropChk, addressing challenges that couldn’t be resolved by off-the-shelf alternatives.
The project was implemented successfully in less than eight months.

Why Versatile Commerce?
Versatile Commerce’s expertise and innovative approach were instrumental in overcoming complex challenges and delivering transformative solutions for PropChk. Versatile successfully implemented this project in just eight months using Agile and SCRUM methodologies. The team consisted of 12 experienced and skilled engineers and project managers.
We are now working with PropChk to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) with their process to enable anyone to conduct inspections and automate report production. This will reduce dependency on qualified engineers and inspectors, enabling PropChk to scale quickly and reduce costs. The project is currently under R&D and will ensure the applications work seamlessly with minimal human intervention.
